Sava Buncic - who, what, where and how...
Sava Buncic is long-time academic, scientist, and literary novelist.
 
Biography highlights:
Sava was born and educated as veterinary surgeon in Serbia. For most of his adult life, he has lived and worked in New Zealand and United Kingdom. Sava spends most of his time in Hamilton (Waikato, New Zealand), where he worked for years as a scientist at AgResearch (ex-MIRINZ), but he was professor in public health and food safety at universities in Europe (United Kingdom and Serbia) as well. Furthermore, he has acted as external scientific expert for a range of international bodies including in European Union, World Health Organization and Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN. Sava has been married to his Kiwi wife Sheryl for decades and his only son Veljko, an architect, lives with his own family and works in London.
 
Books:
Sava is the author of several scientific books and numerous articles in scientific journals, all published world-wide. Sava has always had strong interest in literary writing as well, primarily literary fiction for adults. The issues that particularly attract his literary attention include challenges and hard choices encountered throughout life in the fierce modern world and how an individual can meet them. His first literary fiction novel Mantle
Convection, dealing with those issues, has been published in June 2015. Publication of his second literary fiction novel is scheduled for January 2016.
Scientific consultancy:
Sava holds DVM, MSciVM and PhD degrees. He is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Public Health-ECVPH and has worked as a food safety specialist in Europe and in New Zealand. His main contributions are in support of risk assessment-based and evidence-based approaches to food safety and meat inspection.  He is also an expert in meat processing and integrated food safety management. His book “Integrated Food Safety and Veterinary Public Health” is a key reference and teaching resource in the field. Sava has served as a Member of the Scientific Panel on Biological Hazards of the European Food Safety Authority- EFSA. He is an Editor of relevant scientific journals in the field of food safety.
